Progressive Maryland, an organization dedicated to serving the interests of working families in Maryland, endorsed Ike Leggett for County Executive.
"We believe he is an exceptional leader who has successfully fought for living wages, health benefits and a host of related initiatives for workers and their families," said Scott Dobson, acting director of Progressive Maryland.
"I am pleased that Progressive Maryland supports my agenda and I am proud to receive their endorsement," said Leggett. "My commitment to democratic ideals has been the cornerstone of my long career in public service. Whether fighting for civil rights or workers' rights, leading the fight for affordable housing or environmental preservation, I have always worked to bring people together to achieve our common democratic values."
"In my 16 years on the Council, with three terms as President and three more as Vice-President, I succeeded in increasing funding for affordable housing, establishing a living wage for workers in Montgomery County, creating the offices of the People's Counsel and Inspector General to ensure good government, and reducing class sizes in our public schools," said Leggett.
Progressive Maryland was founded five years ago, and has since become the largest grassroots advocacy organization in Maryland, with 25,000 individual members and supporters.
"Ike has been a leader in the state of Maryland protecting the most vulnerable in our society. His accomplishments, integrity and independence clearly make him the best candidate to become the next executive for Montgomery County," said Dobson.
