Today Ike Leggett announces the start of his campaign for Montgomery County Executive. Council President three times, Leggett served for 16 years on the Montgomery County Council and for the last two years as Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party.

Though the Democratic Primary Election is nearly 20 months away, we are confident of success. The campaign begins with the mailing of the attached letter (with issues page and testimonial page) to thousands of friends who will recognize that Leggett has exceptionally strong and deep qualifications for this position.

Leggett has for 25 years demonstrated unusual leadership in bringing people together to help solve the County’s problems. He has attracted strong support from other leaders, reflected in quotes even from those with differing views on issues such as former County Executives Sid Kramer and Neal Potter. The Leggett campaign already has participants from varied backgrounds, occupations and interests beginning to build a broad coalition of supporters from all over the County.

Please visit Ike’s website, www.ikeleggett.org, to see his bio, resumé, and long list of honors and awards. The attached issues page briefly captures his positions on many of the matters on which he has worked that are relevant to this campaign. As the Ike Leggett for Montgomery County Executive campaign progresses, those items will grow into more detailed discussions.
